Letter: Vote yes on Measure G to stop new oil development and ban fracking

To the editor,Ecstatic dance participant responds to criticism

–I moved to California when I was 8 years old from Missouri and recall my first visit to a beach in San Luis Obispo County. Our large family relished in the experience of running in the sand and feeling that cold ocean water on our feet. That was the first of many family trips to San Luis Obispo County. As an adult, the Central Coast remained a favorite vacation destination and I always hoped to relocate to the area.

In 2015, I had the opportunity to move to San Luis Obispo County and I feel privileged and appreciative to live in an environment that is beautiful and vibrant. As a visitor to the area, I was unaware of oil drilling in the County. After settling in Arroyo Grande, I became educated about the existence of oil wells in our county and, in the last year, joined the Coalition to Protect San Luis Obispo County. I feel strongly that as a county we need to protect our precious environmental resources. Measure G will ensure that SLO County water will remain clean and will protect us from any future possibility of fracking, which would have devastating effects to our local environment in the form of earthquakes and contaminated water.

I want our citizens and the millions of visitors to San Luis Obispo County to continue enjoying this beautiful area. Voting “yes” Measure G will ensure that families will continue to enjoy the sandy beaches, beautiful hiking trails and safe clean water.

Sincerely,

Stefanie Monahan
Arroyo Grande resident
