Twin Cities starts North County stroke support group

– Recovering from a stroke can be a challenging time for stroke survivors as they relearn how to care for themselves, overcome mobility issues or change how they communicate. Caregivers can help by encouraging their loved one to be as independent as possible, helping them make their own decisions and promoting participation in leisure activities. To help both stroke survivors and their caregivers navigate these new challenges, Twin Cities Community Hospital is offering a monthly North County Stroke Support Group. The group is free and open to anyone in the community who may have questions about life after stroke or who is looking to meet others who may share similar feelings or experiences as either a stroke survivor or caregiver.

The first North County Stroke Support Group meeting will take place on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Founders’ Pavilion Morgan Conference Room located at 1220 Las Tables Road in Templeton. Beginning in January, the group will then meet on the fourth Thursday of every month at the same time and location (no meeting in December). No registration is required to attend the group meetings.

“Our goal with this support group is to provide information that is useful and relevant to both stroke survivors and those who care for them,” said Michelle Brimer, RN, Stroke Coordinator at Twin Cities and facilitator of the group. “All we ask is that you come with a willingness to share and support one another.”

Twin Cities Community Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center and has also earned the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines® Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for Stroke Care.
