Templeton residents cut water usage 25-percent

water savingsThe Templeton Community Services District issued a statement Thursday thanking residents and businesses for their cooperation in the district’s water conservation efforts to date. In March, the board of directors declared a Level 1 Water Supply Shortage, and adopted new water conservation measures which began in April.

Residents of Templeton have done a fantastic job thus far, the district reports. The average water production of June 2013 was 2,199,906 gallons per day (GPD), while the average of June 2014 was 1,650,784 GPD, resulting in a 25-percent reduction in water use.

April, May, and June of 2014 overall had a water use average of 1,378,899 GPD. April, May, and June of 2013 had an average of 1,810,353 GPD. Comparing these values shows an overall 23.8-percent decrease in water use in the months of April, May, and June.

Conservation measures are still in effect. They are as follows:

  1. The watering of lawns, shrubs, or other landscaping that requires “spray” irrigation will be prohibited from the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  2. All landscape is limited to no more than three assigned days per week. Even number addresses may only irrigate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Odd number addressed may only irrigate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
  3. All wasting of water will be prohibited. Examples of water wasting include but are not limited to: washing streets, sidewalks, or driveways down instead of sweeping; letting hoses run open and/or without a controlling device at the end; and outside watering or irrigation practices that result in water running off the property.
  4. Limits on washing vehicles: Using water to wash or clean a vehicle, including but not limited to any automobile, truck, van, bus, motorcycle, boat or trailer, whether motorized or not, is prohibited, except by use of a hand-held bucket or similar container, or a hand-help hose equipped with a positive self-closing water shut-off nozzle or device. This does not apply to any commercial car washing facility.
