Templeton fire insurance rating improves
The Templeton Community Services District announced Tuesday that its Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating is going to be improved on June 1, 2014. The ISO rate will go from a level 5/9 to 4/9. The ISO rating is an analysis of the structural fire suppression delivery system provided to the community.
The lower an ISO rating, the less an individual or business pays for homeowners or commercial insurance. The rating of “4″ applies to any structure within five travel miles from the fire station and within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant. The rating of “9″ applies to structures within five travel miles from the fire station but is further than 1,000 feet from a fire.
ISO ratings depend on three factors. Ten percent is based on the Emergency Communication Center facilities. 50% of the overall score is based upon the Fire Department’s structural fire suppression system. ISO field representatives looked at the Department’s apparatus and equipment; response to structure fires; the number of available firefighters responding to fires; and training. The remaining 40% of an ISO rating depends on the available water supply.
