Sheriff’s office seeking bicycle donations for its Christmas bike program

bike-giveaway feat

–The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is once again seeking donations for its Christmas Bike Program. This year, the Christmas Bicycle Giveaway is Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Honor Farm parking lot.

Due to high demand, this year they are only accepting children’s bicycles for donation. As a result, they are asking the community to come together and donate smaller bikes to the program.

The Christmas Bike Program began 24 years ago with the idea of promoting the holiday spirit by giving away refurbished bicycles with new helmets to underprivileged children in San Luis Obispo County. Currently, the Sheriff’s Honor Farm is the assembly point for bicycles that are donated and in need of repair. Inmates working at the honor farm complete all of the repairs to the bicycles. This instills in the inmates a positive work ethic, self-respect and a sense of giving back to the community.

Individuals and businesses who wish to donate children’s bicycles can bring them to any of the Sheriff’s Office Patrol stations or to the Sheriff’s Honor Farm located on Highway 1. For donations of five or more bikes they will pick up. Call (805) 781-4637, to schedule a pick up.

If you would like to make a monetary contribution for the purchase of parts or helmets, please send your check to: Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation Attn: Bicycle Fund P.O. Box 3752 San Luis Obispo, Calif., 93403.

If you know of a child in need of a bicycle and would like an application, send an e-mail to Sergeant Stephanie Landgraf at [email protected]. All applications are due by Dec. 1.
