Templeton Fire and Emergency Services

Department seeks permanent and alternative funding sources

–For more than 120 years, Templeton Fire and Emergency Services has been an important part of the community. On staff is a half-time fire chief, two full-time captains, and up to 30 paid call firefighters that provide highly-trained and skilled fire, medical, rescue and public service response 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As the Templeton Community Services District grows both in residential and commercial development, the department is seeing an increase in emergency and nonemergency calls for service.

The district is pursuing permanent and alternate funding sources to help offset the ongoing costs associated with emergency services. A permanent solution could be a voter or property owner-approved benefit assessment or a parcel tax to provide a reliable and sustainable funding mechanism. An alternative the district is pursuing with San Luis Obispo County is the creation of a Community Facility District for new residential and commercial development, which will ensure new development pays their fair share of the increased demand for emergency services. Another option the district is working with the county on is the negotiation of an increased share of our property tax allocation.

The department is looking for local individuals, business owners, and organizations that understand and value the services Fire and Emergency Services personnel provide.  All are invited to join the new Friends of the Templeton Fire Department ambassadors group.

Friends of the Templeton Fire Department will be an advocacy group which will help spread the message about the department’s challenges, opportunities, services and goals. Those interested in being part of this grassroots effort to support the Templeton Department of Fire And Emergency Services are encouraged to contact Fire Chief Bill White at [email protected] or (805) 434-4911.
