—The Sheriff’s Office is issuing an advisory regarding illegal solicitors from out of the area who do business selling magazines. The Sheriff’s Office has received a number of complaints about the solicitors who are believed to be working in the Los Osos, North Coast, and Five-Cities areas.

The practice involves teams of solicitors being discharged into neighborhoods with no sales permit or business license. Door to door solicitation in the unincorporated areas require specific permits. However, many of these type of out of state operations involve persons who do not obtain proper permits and may involve persons with a prior criminal history. Some individuals are known to use deceptive tactics to commit theft activity after gaining access to the home of victims.

The Sheriff’s Office cautions the public to know who they are allowing into their home and to call their local law enforcement agency if illegal solicitors are in their neighborhood.
