Two adults and two children jump from second story to escape apartment fire

At approximately 2 a.m. Thursday morning, Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services responded to a reported apartment fire located on Ebony Road.

Firefighters arrived at scene within four minutes to discover heavy smoke and fire emitting from a second story apartment and stairwell. Firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading to adjoining apartments, limiting heat and smoke damage to the adjoining structures.

The apartment was occupied at the time of the fire. The exit was blocked with fire which required two adult occupants and two children to jump from the second story window. One adult occupant is being treated at Twin Cities Community Hospital for leg injuries as a result of jumping out the window.

Two fire engines, one Fire Chief, and one Battalion Chief from Paso Robles responded. Under the city’s automatic aid agreements, four fire engines and two Battalion Chief’s from CAL FIRE/SLO County, one ladder truck from Atascadero City Fire, one engine from Templeton Fire, and one engine from San Miguel Fire immediately responded to assist.

The fire was contained at approximately 2:30 a.m. Thirteen residents of the apartment complex required housing assistance from Red Cross.
