The ‘old truck’ hasn’t run in two decades

The Camp Roberts Historical Museum has a “Help Wanted” sign out for a volunteer enthusiasts to help get a WW2-era Army Halftrack truck back on the road. It’s been nearly two decades or more since the old truck has run and the Museum needs volunteers to get it back in shape. The Halftrack was a World War 2 staple that provided the off-road hauling capabilities of a tank with the conventional drive power of a military truck.

Those interested may contact the museum by phone: (805) 208-8692, or just stop by and speak to one of the volunteers, The museum is open on Thursdays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Camp Roberts Historical Museum is located on the Camp Roberts base, 12 miles north of Paso Robles on Highway 101. Please bring your driver’s license, auto registration and proof of auto insurance to enter the base.

The Camp Roberts Historical Museum Foundation, which operates the museum, is a 501c (3) non-profit organization. The foundation is organized to operate the museum for the California State Military Museum system, to educate the public about the development of Camp Roberts and the camp’s role in the country’s and the U.S. Army’s history. Funding sources come from the foundation membership, visitors and donations from the public.
