sports safety templetonClinic will be held at performing arts center in Templeton

– In preparation for the kick-off of high school football season, Twin Cities Community Hospital will present a football safety clinic for parents and coaches of high school and youth football athletes. Young athletes themselves are also invited to attend with their parents.

The community education event will focus on identification, management and prevention of common sports injuries among children and teenagers, including shoulder and knee injuries and on-the-field head and neck evaluations. The presentation will be led by Paso Robles and Templeton High School team physicians Mark Kowall, MD and Mark Mooney, MD; both of whom specialize in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. Certified athletic trainers will also join the discussion and provide additional insight into sports concussion and exertional heat illness.

The Football Safety Clinic will take place on Monday, Aug. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Templeton Performing Arts Center located at 1200 South Main Street in Templeton. A light dinner will be provided in the courtyard prior to the start of the presentation.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 2.6 million children and teens are treated in the emergency department each year for sports and recreation-related injuries. These injuries are by far the most common cause of musculoskeletal injuries in children treated in emergency departments. They are also the single most common cause of injury-related primary care office visits.

To register for this free community event, call (805) 434-4965 or visit www.TwinCitiesHospital.com and click on “Classes & Events.” Seating is limited.
