–Tuesday night more than 160 people turned out for a town hall meeting in Templeton to discuss a proposed single lane roundabout for the 101/Main Street Interchange. San Luis Obispo County engineers offered four options to improve the intersection. All included roundabouts. They ranged in cost from $8.8 million to $20.5 million.

San Luis Obispo County, the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) and the California Department of Transportation are proposing a roundabout as a fix for the traffic issues at the 101/Main Street intersection. The crowd was overwhelmingly opposed to a roundabout. Some cited safety issues. Others said a roundabout could not handle local truck traffic, particularly big rigs. Several people asked that the county return with a plan which does not include a roundabout. County planners will conduct another public hearing later this year. Construction is not expected to begin for 5-7 years.
