Local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter seek signing of Constitution Week Proclamation
–The week of Sept. 17-23, Constitution Week is the commemoration of America’s most important document. El Paso de Robles Chapter NSDAR has sent requests to the Paso Robles Mayor Steven Martin, Superintendent Kurt Dubost, Assist Superintendent Gene Miller, Superintendent of Templeton Schools, Principal Nate Maas, Assist Principal Tom Harrington, Superintendent Kristine Benson, Principal Tim Vincent and Principal Erin Haley to seek a signing of a Proclamation designating Sept. 17- 23 as Constitution Week. It is celebrated annually through local schools, and El Paso de Robles Chapter NSDAR would like to promote community awareness of the responsibility to protect, defend and preserve the Constitution.
The Daughters of the American Revolution initiated the observance in 1955, when the organization petitioned the U.S. Congress to dedicate September 17–23 of each year to the commemoration of Constitution Week. Congress adopted the resolution, and on August 2, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed it into Public Law #915. The celebration’s goals are threefold: to encourage the study of the historical events that led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787; to inform people that the Constitution is the basis of America’s great heritage and the foundation of our way of life; and to emphasize U.S. citizens’ responsibility to protect, defend and preserve the Constitution.
El Paso de Robles Chapter NSDAR elpasoderobles.californiadar.org, is an active chapter honoring our ancestors who fought for our nation’s independence. El Paso de Robles Chapter NSDAR will celebrate 70 years of service to the community Feb. 25, 2020 and will continue to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.
