Help Make the 4th Fun, ‘Safe & Sane’

The Fourth of July will be here in a blink of the eye, and the Templeton Fire Department wants everyone to enjoy the holiday—safely.Fireworks

The festivities begin at 7 a.m. with the annual Pancake Breakfast hosted by Templeton’s firefighters. Come and have an old-fashioned breakfast before enjoying the parade! Tickets will be available from any Templeton firefighter or at the Templeton Community Services Office after June 1. Due to the popularity of the event, it is strongly suggested pre-sale tickets are purchased.

At 10 a.m. the traditional community parade begins. Immediately following the parade an auction will be conducted by the Lions Club in the park. Joining the auction in the park will be non-profit concession booths selling food and beverage goods.

After dark, the community lights up with fireworks. The sale and discharge of fireworks is limited, (from noon on July 1 to midnight on July 4th.)

Fireworks discharged within the Community Services District must be only those purchased at the fireworks booths in Templeton. Firecrackers, cherry bombs, M80’s, bottle rockets; mortar shells are examples of illegal fireworks (anything that flies through the air or explodes).

The fire department reminds the public that illegal fireworks can cause wildfires, roof fires and serious injuries, however, even ‘safe and sane’ fireworks are dangerous when discharged improperly.

Possession of illegal fireworks is a misdemeanor and punishable by up to one year in county jail and a fine of $1,000. Illegal fireworks can be turned in to the fire department, located at 206 5th Street.

Officials from the California Highway Patrol, the SLO County Sheriff and Templeton Community Services District will be working together to ensure that a safe and enjoyable environment is maintained throughout the holiday period.
