McPhee's Grill

416 S Main St, Templeton, CA, United States

Owned and operated by chef-pastry chef, husband-wife team Ian and June McPhee, McPhee’s Grill has been the top steakhouse and restaurant of choice in Templeton, California and the greater North San Luis Obispo County, CA area since 1994. The perfect complement to the surrounding world-class wine country in Paso Robles, Templeton and Atascadero, McPhee’s Grill offers fine wine and fine dining, with a seasonal menu that showcases the bounty of fresh, local produce, meat and fish grown, raised and caught on the fertile Central Coast.

A graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Chef Ian McPhee lives and breathes cooking. He began his career at the Cigar Factory Restaurant, DW Grovers in Grover Beach and Joshua's in Paso Robles, before opening his first restaurant, Ian's Restaurant, in Cambria, which he helmed from 1983 to 1993.

In 1994, McPhee seized the opportunity to open the first fine dining establishment in the heart of what was by then quickly becoming the world’s next Napa. Utilizing the freshest, local ingredients, the self-taught cook and restaurateur aimed to build a kitchen that would be known for its innovative, exquisite meals, and a dining room with a reputation for superior service.

On these two cornerstones—great food and great service—McPhee’s Grill has thrived. Widely cited as one of the best restaurants in the Central Coast in general, the Templeton eatery was named in the “The West's best unsung BBQ town” feature article in Sunset Magazine’s August 2013 issue. “Go at dinnertime, when the pit’s lit, for red oak–grilled artichokes and steaks. You can’t miss with the rib-eye, which comes with three homemade salsas as well as jalapeño-cheese mashed potatoes and roasted poblano chiles stuffed with goat cheese.” – Sunset Magazine, August 2013

Little touches like the complimentary appetizer plate (homemade pickled onions, carrots, olives and pepperoncinis) starts guests out on the right foot, while spectacular wine paired with fine dining dishes like the 2-bone, double-cut, brown sugar-cured pork chops and macadamia crusted fresh, locally-caught fish (seasonal menu) make a meal at McPhee’s steakhouse one to remember forever.
