Day in the Shade returns to Templeton May 9, bigger and better than ever
Day in the Shade presented by Olea Farms features art, food, music, dog show, kids activities, and more during Mother’s Day weekend
Bring the entire family to Farmer’s Market and stay for a Day in the Shade: A Celebration of the Arts on Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A perfect Mother’s Day weekend outing in the quaint setting of the Templeton Park, Day in the Shade, now in its 13th year, will feature over 60 fine artists, a silent auction, local artisan food, wine and olive oil tastings, a petting zoo, interactive children’s activities and exhibits, a dog show, and live music.
“Day in the Shade takes place on Mother’s Day weekend and it is the perfect place to spend a day out with mom or the entire family,” says Christie Kelly, Executive Director for The Cancer Support Community. “The setting is beautiful, and there are opportunities to shop for a Mother’s Day gift or maybe even find something to take home for you to enjoy. Bring mom down to enjoy some savory waffles and coffee, view some art and, in the afternoon, sip some wine, listen to music, and have a tri-tip sandwich. Day in the Shade is what the Central Coast is all about – hanging out with family and friends and celebrating life.”
Artists will represent various mediums including paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor photography, jewelry, woodwork, ceramics, and more. There is something for all ages to enjoy and admission to the event is free, with tickets available for purchase for wine and olive oil tasting, food, and drinks. Proceeds from wine sales and the dog show will benefit The Cancer Support Community – California Central Coast.
Olive oil vendors include Olea Farm and Pomar Ridge, with wine tasting featuring Castoro Cellars, Clavo Cellars, Peachy Canyon, Kelsey See Canyou, Herydange, Adelaida Cellars, Venteux Vineyards and more.
Day in the Shade activities include:
• Over 60 fine artists from SLO County and beyond
• Interactive kid activities including petting zoo, face painting, and crafts
• Live music by The Apple Blossom Specials and Big Daddy’s Blues Band
• Wine and olive oil tasting from 1-5 p.m. $15 advance tickets, $20 at door
• Mother’s Day breakfast featuring Sweet and Savory Waffles, 9-11:30 a.m.
• Barbecued tri-tip sandwich lunch by Chef Charlie, 12-5 p.m.
• “A Mutter’s Day” Dog Show from 12-1 p.m. Register dogs from 9-11:30 a.m.
“The dog show is a new addition this year and we encourage everyone to come out with their friendly dogs and take part,” says Executive Director for The Cancer Support Community Christie Kelly. “Dogs are such an important part of our lives and, with this being a perfect Mother’s Day event, we wanted to include our furry friends and bring them out to the park with the family. Pets are a great component in the recovery of our patients and survivors and we are hoping to integrate that aspect into some of our programs soon.”
Awards will be handed out in 16 separate categories; all are donated by Spa Central Coast. With a suggested donation of $10 per dog entry, all proceeds will directly benefit The Cancer Support Community.
